Before the Beginning
Not every attempt succeeds. But even the ones that don't can shape what comes next.
Years before Epishine was formed, a company emerged around Olle Inganäs’s research into folded organic solar cells. It was called SoleVe, and behind it were professors and post-docs from Linköping University and Chalmers, working to turn promising research into something commercial.
It never took off. As the people behind it moved on to other work, the company eventually dissolved.
Jonas Bergqvist and Anders Elfwing would enter the story later, carrying forward an important lesson from SoleVe into what would eventually become Epishine. The science was promising, but without patents, there was little the company could protect as its own. So, the focus shifted. Jonas and Anders began looking for a new way forward, one that could result in technology of their own. That work eventually led to lamination.
We won't tell you yet how that process works, or what problem it solved. But something had changed. Instead of continuing down the same path, they went back, rethought the problem, and started again.
