Epishine Secures Extensive Agreement for Solar-Powered Smoke Detectors

An Asian leader in safety and security systems, in collaboration with Epishine, pioneers in solar energy solutions, has agreed to launch a smoke detector on the market during 2024 that you under normal conditions never have to replace the batteries in. This is the improved second-generation smoke detector featuring extended battery life, powered by solar cells, that the company is releasing.

This initiative is expected to set new standards in the safety equipment sector by enhancing the longevity and reliability of smoke detectors, thus ensuring continuous protection without the frequent need for battery replacements. The light-powered smoke-detectors are designed to be sustainable, reducing both waste and maintenance costs while ensuring smoother operation.

”Epishine's indoor solar cells are uniquely bendable and the only ones capable of handling the round form factor typically used for smoke detectors,” says Mattias Josephson, CSO of Epishine. “Our organic solar cells are specifically optimized for low-light indoor applications, making them perfect for powering devices like smoke detectors”

Epishine’s technology captures light from indoor environments to generate power efficiently, making it an ideal solution for devices requiring low energy consumption.

This agreement corresponds to approximately 15 million USD per year after ramp-up for Epishine. The global smoke detector market has an estimated annual turnover close to 2 billion USD.

“Great to see that another market is showing good traction, the switch to more sustainable and user-friendly solutions is happening in several markets simultaneously right now with several other product launches planned for 2024,” says Anders Kottenauer, CEO of Epishine.
