The Pivot

Written by Epishine | October 16, 2026

In early 2017, five people met in Hallsberg. That day, they made a decision that would shape what Epishine became.

For months, the company had been exploring a very different direction: A4-sized solar sheets intended for developing countries, designed to generate enough power to charge a phone or run a radio.

By the time they met in Hallsberg, it was clear that the better opportunity was somewhere else: powering small electronics with the light already present indoors.

That kind of decision sounds obvious now when you know how the story ends, but it wasn't obvious then. Changing direction meant setting aside work the team had already invested in and admitting that the path they were on wasn't the right one.

They made the change anyway.

The new direction brought a different challenge: turning a lab process into something that could be built at scale. That's next.
