When we imagine the future with its smarter cities, sustainable industries, and a world less dependent on finite resources, it’s easy to picture the high-tech devices and bold ideas that could get us there. But behind the scenes, the real enabler of that future is often something more fundamental: how to produce these bold ideas.
At Epishine, we believe the future of energy doesn’t rely only on what technology we create, but on how we produce it.
That’s why, inside our headquarters in Linköping, Sweden, we’ve built something unique: a fully operational, industrial-scale roll-to-roll production line that prints solar cells designed to capture indoor light. Not in theory. Not at pilot scale. Right now. At volume.
Conventional solar manufacturing demands space, infrastructure, and lots of resources. Including costly parts such as massive facilities, high temperatures and long lead times.
We’ve taken a different path.
Our roll-to-roll process continuously prints organic photovoltaic (OPV) materials onto thin, flexible substrates—just like printing a newspaper, only with functional energy layers. It’s compact, elegant, and radically more efficient. With our patented production, we produce solar cells using a fraction of the materials, energy, and floor space that traditional manufacturing requires.
This isn’t about shrinking ambition. It’s about building a smarter industrial model, one that’s lighter, more efficient, and ready to scale without compromise.
All around us, the world is becoming more connected. Sensors are needed to monitor air quality, digital price tags to automate and display dynamic pricing, logistic systems to track shipments in real-time. But every one of these innovations need power, and most of them still run on batteries. Disposable, limited-lifetime, hard-to-recycle batteries.
Indoor solar provides a better solution. It captures energy from the light that’s already available indoors and turns it into power effectively making them self-powered. And our printed solar cells are optimized for exactly this: low-light environments, where conventional technologies don’t work.
But to make a real impact, indoor solar can’t remain a niche solution. It must be produced at scale, affordably, and sustainably. That’s where Epishine’s production truly stands apart. Roll-to-roll printing enables massive scalability, with cost and energy efficiencies that no other solar production technology will be able to match.
